Vladimir Putin is a Goddamned Liar!

PutinDM_468x658

Two pairs of articles give profound insights into the state of the new cold war between the United States and Russia.

First, Putin launched a wave of hundreds of Stalin-like raids on human rights organizations including such internationally respected outlets as Amnesty International, Transparency International and Human Rights Watch, as well as the leading Russian outlet Memorial.  When questioned, Putin claimed that these were “routine events.” It was an absolutely brazen neo-Soviet lie.  In fact, records clearly show that Putin’s actions against the NGOs are totally unprecedented in Russian history.  Just as in Soviet times, the Russian government simply doesn’t care about facts and has no respect whatsoever for the people of Russia, much less for other countries.

Then, even as a major article in the Wall Street Journal exposed the “axis of evil” being fomented by Russia across the globe, a shocking story from Reuters reported that there are members of the Obama administration who argue that it would be better to antagonize members of the U.S. Congress than to antagonize Putin. For that reason they want to serve Putin’s interests rather than follow the Magnitsky law and ban Russian human rights offenders from U.S. soil. There’s only one word for such behavior, and that word is treachery.  In Russia, they’d surely jail such venal traitors.

If you want to get  really deep insight into the way Russians see the world, check out a truly crazy diatribe by Vladislav Inozemtsev, the director of the Moscow-based Center for Post-Industrial Studies, in the Moscow Times.   Inozemtsev calls for the U.S. to give Russia “more respect” and to “treat it as an equal.”  His hypocrisy is breathtaking, because Russia certainly doesn’t treat countries like Ukraine and Georgia as equals, and he doesn’t call for it to do so. While claiming that Russia should be treated as an equal, he says 100% of the burden for changing the relationship lies on America’s shoulders, a pretty weird definition of equality to say the least. And he ignores the fact that America’s population is double that of Russia and its economy is ten times larger, making it difficult to see exactly how the two countries could ever be considered “equals.” An avalanche of reader comments expose Inozemtsev’s crazy neo-Soviet propaganda for what it is.

Or check out a recent piece in the MT by Georgy Bovt, showing how Russians delude themselves into imagining that China is treating them like an equal when in fact the Chinese see Russia as nothing but a potential vassal state, a lackey, a barrel of oil into which China can dip its pump.

We are right back where we were at the height of the first cold war. Russia is run by the KGB, and it is descending into a truly bizarre world of self-deception and lies, cut off from the truth after wiping out real journalism and real opposition politics.  Russia fumes with anti-American hatred and spends money it does not have on arms racing and ideological confrontation. The USSR was driven to collapse by these crazed policies. Russia is asking to meet the same fate.

It’s when reading preposterous Amurrrkan tripe such as this that the brilliance of Putin’s statesmanship might appear all but superhuman. However, a more appropriate, down to earth assessment would rather conclude that Putin’s government — along with its rock-solid popular support — are made up of sane, intelligent people whereas the adversaries such as LR and the entire lot masquerading as the West’s “intelligentsia” are outright subhuman garbage. Be that as it may — Putin treats them with richly deserved contempt and ditto resolve. If this is “delusional” according to Western supremacist standards, the worse for you, folks.

Vladimir Putin, please keep them barking!

    • larussophobe ⋅

If what Putin is doing with NGOs is OK, why is he lying about it? Why isn’t he proud to tell the truth?

      • Manfred Steifschwanz ⋅

He’s being polite, honey. He knows that if he did tell the truth, then La Russophobe would NEVER forgive him 🙂

    • > Amurrrkan

That’s “merkin”, you ignorant ape! As in “merkin football”, “merkin cuisine”, etc.

    • Bohdan ⋅

Yea! Right for once Limppenis! As the only barking REALLY done is by your beloved GOON, vlad Putin.

You just ‘darling” as per your usual muddled thinking confused the good guys (i.e. the west) and the bad, bad guys (i.e. your beloved east) of Putin’s ilk!

You never learn do you, but then I understand comrade baboon.

simple Russians resented by anti-Putin propaganda. by their words, Putin gave them pension and subsistence, anti-western hysteria not product of propaganda but sincere feelings of slave people.

    • I wonder what mental disease has been inducing anti-Russian and anti-Yeltsin hysteria (like this blog) in the West for the past 20 years…

      • MCCUSA ⋅

vladzio, vladzio, vladzio, russia is disintegrating in front of our eyes, in spite of pathetic attempts to keep the shithole called russia together. Truly you must have noticed that all over so called Russia, [ that includes numerous different non-russian countries with their own territories, languages, religions, traditions], there are small, law grade, civil wars going on, waiting to explode into the bloody slaughter house…By the way, vladzio, vladzio, vladzio, haven’t you noticed that moscow is 80% muslim and central asian???

        • Are you serious in these beliefs? Each and every one of them is unreal. For example, there is no civil war. Exactly the opposite, Russia is turning into a totalitarian state, sadly. And, btw, Russia has caught up to Poland in terms of GDP per capita and is pulling away.

  4. > Inozemtsev calls for the U.S. to give Russia “more respect” and to “treat it as an equal.”

Bizarre. Where does this guy live? On Mars? Asking the U.S. to to treat other countries as equals is like asking wolf to treat lambs as “equals”. The US spends more money on wars and weapons than the rest of the world combined, and the Republicans want to spend even more. Why? Because when we wage the war on the rest of the world, we need to win!

Look, not all foreign countries are created equal. Helpless ones, like Grenada, Iraq, Afghanistan, Panama, Yugoslavia when Russia was under Yeltsin, Libya, Syria – they are subject to invasion, occupation and destruction (at the cost of $trillions to US taxpayers). Nuclear-able Russia and its direct allies (e.g., the oil-rich republics of Central Asia) , unfortunately, cannot be subjugated militarily. In fact, there is nothing the US government can do to help Halliburton Exxon here. But that is no reason to treat them as equals, because this would ease the tensions, the new Cold War that the US and UK governments have created in order to dupe the taxpayers into funding the military-industrial complex with their hard-earned money, to the tune of $1 trillion per year.

And don’t tell me that the US government treats Western Europe as an equal. We tolerate them only when they go along with all our harebrained military schemes. For example, when the French, the very people who sacrificed their own economic prosperity to give the Americans their independence from the British, refused to believe the lies that the US government told the UN about the “weapons of mass destruction” in Iraq and Saddam’s alliance with his enemy – Al Qaeda – and threatened to veto the invasion of Iraq in 2003, the American officials and media went berserk.

I think U.S. defense spending should be increased, because there are evil countries in the world who commit aggression. Russia is one example, Moscow would very much enjoy enslaving Eastern Europe again. Luckily NATO has now expanded into Romania, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Estonia, which is solid protection against Russian subhumans and their evil designs of aggression and totalitarianism. This is why Vofka Putin is a deeply unhappy man.

      • Manfred Steifschwanz ⋅

Of course. However, less delusional/more intelligent people than you will instantly realize that “benign protection” from On High doesn’t quite rule out deception along with coercion. The petty bourgeoisie is simply too servile and bigoted to catch up with its betters. Watch out for your bank savings, honey. The big bourgeoisie understands who’s in charge and will stop at nothing to make that clear if need be.

        • dolly538 ⋅

Nobody is “in charge,” all citizens are equal in the free world.
That is difficult to comprehend for those who embalm their political officials (Venezuela, Russia, North Korea).

          • Manfred Steifschwanz ⋅

Still more worthless tripe learned by rote. I think the financial mafia may perfectly well consider your assets as free to take. Dullards of your stature can always be made to blame any hardships on the “Adversaries of the Free World”. Propaganda works miracles with the petty bourgeoisie.

            • dolly538 ⋅

But how do you tell the difference between Big bourgeoisie and Small bourgeoisie? Is there a cut-off amount in dollars? If so, then maybe someone lost money yesterday in the stock market, and was thus demoted from Big to Small league. Conversely, somebody else was successful in his business and made the cut-off threshold for Big Bourgeoisie. So you see, the system is completely fair, because your status and your net worth depend on your work.

            • Bohdan ⋅

Gee whiz ManTurd, your quote “Still more worthless tripe learned by rote.” certainly explains you to a “T.”

Your beloved communists use that form of brainwashing, to ensure that the imbeciles follow their unbelievably ridiculous dogma, hence that is the only area that you excel at, and now parrot phrase this trash! Right on, comrade?

      • Dolly, if oyu are not an American taxpayer, then I have a simple non-negotiable offer to you: for every euro you send to the US treasury, the USA will spend and extra 1.28 dollars on its military, minus clerical and banking expenses.

If you are a US taxpayer, let me agree with you that the US government should make sure that the military security of our country continues to be impeccable, that our military continues to be the best in the world and that every other country knows that any attack on the US territory can be parred by almost total nuclear annihilation on the part of the aggressor. However, the nearest spender is China: $228 billion PPP. Russia spends $93 billion PPP. Thus, spending $400 billion instead of $711 billion in regular military spending would guarantee that USA’s military superiority over all other countries further increases. Ending the occupation of Iraq would yield another $100 billion.

Look, if we, Americans, were living a wealthy lifestyle, the current level of military spending would not be deadly to us. But we aren’t. it is only a matter of time that our government will go bankrupt, leaving our economy in ruins and making the Great Depression look like a picnic.

The entire world is currently discussing the exact dates when countries like Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain will go bankrupt. Well, the US is among them. In terms of Gross government debt as % of GDP, the USA is among the worst, with 107%. Cyprus is not as bad: at 87%. Spain is at 90%. So, the US will certainly beat Spain and Cyprus to bankruptcy.

The US government is currently under sequestration, which is a measure aimed at postponing the total bankruptcy by several months. Half of the reductions in the spending increases are made to the military spending. This is a great victory for Libertarians, but how long will it last? The Republican Congress is hell-bent on slashing the spending on health and education by $50 billion (“Let the poor die without health insurance!”), reducing taxes on the rich by $200 billion, and bloating the military spending by about $300 billion. If the Congress has its way, the bankruptcy will come in a couple of years at most.

        • Correction: ” if you are not an American taxpayer, then I have a simple non-negotiable offer to you: for every euro you send to the US treasury, the USA will spend an extra…”

    • larussophobe ⋅

Does Russia treat Ukraine and Georgia as equals? Or are you just a breathtaking hypocrite, like Inozemtsev?

Why is it OK with you that the USA is told to treat Russia with more respect but Russia is not told to treat the USA with more respect? Is it because you’re psychotic?

      • > Does Russia treat Ukraine and Georgia as equals? Or are you just a breathtaking hypocrite, like Inozemtsev?

It could indeed be argued that Russia treats the 14 republics that were part of its empire until 1992 and that contain many Russian-speakers and current Russian citizens in a meddling way. However, it treats the remaining 150″ countries as equals. It indeed considers itself the regional power for the ex-USSR region.

The USA, on the other hand, considers itself not just THE sole global power, but also the world’s policeman, prosecutor, judge, jury, and executioner. It treats almost all countries, with the possible exception of UK, Australia, Israel, as its inferiors. Even Canada. It also considers the entire global supply of oil as its own.

Worse than that, the US government views US taxpayers as milking cows for its wasteful military spending and never-ending war boondoggles, to the tune of $1 trillion per year and growing.

        • dolly538 ⋅

Yeah but the U.S. stands for democracy, so they are not a threat. But Russia stands for totalitarianism, so we should be wary of their every move.

          • Manfred Steifschwanz ⋅

Worthless tripe learned by rote — so much for bourgeois “individualism”.

          • Dolly, internal democracy is no guarantee from international aggression and imperialism. In fact, almost all colonialism and imperialism was done by Western European countries. Hitler came to power in democratic Germany in a perfectly democratic way. On the other hand, fascist Spain, Portugal and Chile, whose regimes are almost identical to Putin’s Russia, never engaged in any international conflicts or wars.

General Patton, in his letters to his wife explained why he was such an admirer of Nazi Germany: because they share with the American the Saxon love for war and conquest.

But in any case, if oyu are worried about the safety of Europe vis-a-vis Russia, rest assured: European countries alone spend 3 times more PPP on defence than Russia.

            • dolly538 ⋅

What I mean to say is: If the U.S. conquered the world, everyone would live happily.
But if Russia conquered the world, misery would prevail.

So that is why I have no problem with 200 U.S. bases, but I have a big problem with even 1 Russian base.

    • MCCUSA ⋅

Major headache: Man finds screwdriver lodged in skull
        9:59a.m. EST March 8, 2013

        STORY HIGHLIGHTS

The man noticed the screwdriver when he looked in the mirror of his car
He had a cigarette before calling a neighbor to take him to the hospital
The accident did not damage his eyes or brain

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Polish doctors say a 25-year-old man has undergone a three-hour operation to remove a screwdriver lodged about two inches into his head.

Dr. Jan Kochanowicz, one of the doctors who treated the man in the Polish city of Bialystok, said the man apparently fell and lost consciousness, but does not remember that.

When he regained consciousness he was at first aware only of pain in a hand before realizing something else was wrong. He walked to his car, looked in a mirror and noticed the screwdriver, penetrating his forehead just above his right eye.

Kochanowicz told the station TVN24 the man smoked a cigarette before calling a neighbor who got him to the hospital.

The screwdriver did not damage the man’s eyes or brain.

        • Manfred Steifschwanz ⋅

A screwdriver penetrating a Pshek’s forehead makes very little difference for quite obvious reasons. It might just as well remain in place. Indeed, I hereby suggest that this really cool brand of “face-lifting”shail be introduced as Pshek piercing, ha!

My dear La Russophobe, you have completely missed the boat on this one. Have you not connected the raid on the NGOs and xenophobia on the Kremlin-run TV with the other big story in the Russian news: the ill-preparation of Sochi to host the winter Olympics?

Putin and his FSB are quite making foreigners feel unwelcome in order to proactively avoid having them swarm to Russia only to find that there’s no hotel room ready to accept their euros or dollars.

It’s a brilliant win/win for everyone (except of course the two or three pro-democracy Russians who are not yet in jail). In fact, if the raids continue, we should expect a number of countries to boycott the Olympics altogether, virtually assuring Russia will win the gold in hockey against Syria or Venezuela…

    • About hotel rooms – an interesting angle…

Insightful op-ed piece in the MT today, holding out hope for political opposition to still find its voice in Russia. the author’s thesis is that media that is not state-sponsored has to be anti-Putin in order to survive commercially, sim[ly because the masses won’t pay to read Kremlin propaganda. and that the intelligentsia long ago stopped getting its news from the state-controlled TV.
    http://www.themoscowtimes.com/opinion/article/why-it-pays-for-a-daily-to-be-anti-putin/477990.html
and, of course, between the provocative press and the Kremlin’s propaganda there are things like….Pravda.ru, Russian media for credulous morons and, well, people like me….. (I am ashamed to admit that I occasionally visit just to see what horrible tortures the West is cooking up for Russians. bombard them with zombie rays, or let the aliens capture and eat them? more importantly, is the CIA concealing the discovery of the lost civilisation of Atlantis?)

Note carefully comrade Vlad Rottenburro. When you compare those two evil mass murderers Stalin and Hitler! They both murdered in the millions! But the difference was that your beloved mass murderer Stalin did away with humans in the ten’s of millions, while the mass murderer Hitler only managed to do away with millions.

Now I hope that that pathetic pea brain of yours can comprehend this simple fact. But I doubt it as the damage to the gray matter of yours is too severe and too permanent.
